Sierra Nevada is a mountain range and ski resort in southern Spain's Andalusia. While this area is typically associated with sun, sea, and beach, heavy snowfall can also occur here in winter. Additionally, the mountains reach a height of over 3,400 metres! Sierra Nevada means 'snow covered mountains' and another name for the ski resort is Solynieve, meaning 'sun and snow' in Spanish. Skiers and snowboarders have access to over 112 km of slopes spread over 139 runs in the ski resort.

Sierra Nevada: skiing in the south of Spain

Thanks to its high mountains, you can enjoy fantastic skiing in southern Spain during the winter months. There are no fewer than 16 peaks higher than 3,000 meters, with the 3482-meter Mulhacén being the highest of them all. The mountain range is close to the popular city of Granada (32 km), from where the white peaks of the Sierra Nevada are easily visible. Driving up from the city, you can take several lifts into the ski resort in the village of Pradollano, which is located at 2,100 meters. The ski resort offers 112.5 kilometers of pistes located on the flanks of the 3398-meter-high Veleta. The variety of pistes on offer is extensive, with 20 green, 48 blue, 51 red, and 7 black slopes. The highlight is the Águila slope, which at 6.3 km long and almost 1,200 meters altitude is the longest in the ski area. Families have access to a kinderland and kids club, as well as fun family slopes and a fun park. Those who can't get enough of skiing can also hit the slopes in the evening on some days. The Río and Maribel slopes are floodlit.
