Additionally, the mountains reach a height of over 3,400 metres! Sierra Nevada means 'snow covered mountains' and another name for the ski resort is Solynieve, meaning 'sun and snow' in Spanish. Skiers and snowboarders have access to over 112 km of slopes spread over 139 runs in the ski resort.

Thanks to its high mountains, you can enjoy fantastic skiing in southern Spain during the winter months. There are no fewer than 16 peaks higher than 3,000 meters, with the 3482-meter Mulhacén being the highest of them all. The mountain range is close to the popular city of Granada (32 km), from where the white peaks of the Sierra Nevada are easily visible. Driving up from the city, you can take several lifts into the ski resort in the village of Pradollano, which is located at 2,100 meters. The ski resort offers 112.5 kilometers of pistes located on the flanks of the 3398-meter-high Veleta. The variety of pistes on offer is extensive, with 20 green, 48 blue, 51 red, and 7 black slopes. The highlight is the Águila slope, which at 6.3 km long and almost 1,200 meters altitude is the longest in the ski area. Families have access to a kinderland and kids club, as well as fun family slopes and a fun park. Those who can't get enough of skiing can also hit the slopes in the evening on some days. The Río and Maribel slopes are floodlit.

Ski holidays with children in Sierra Nevada
The ski resort Sierra Nevada offers extensive opportunities and facilities for families with children. The youngest children playfully practice their turns in the children's area Jardín Alpino near Borreguiles. If the kids are too young for ski lessons, but you as a parent would like to spend a few hours on the slopes yourself, El Cole de la Nieve in Pradollano offers childcare from 4 months to 6 years. Booking in advance is recommended, as space is limited. There are two family slopes scattered in the ski area: Pista del Mar at the Emile Allais chairlift and Pista de el Bosque in the Borreguiles beginners' area. Adventurous kids can have fun in the Kidspark, a park filled with obstacles designed especially for children. This fun park is located at Snowpark Sulayr de Loma de Dílar, which is the adult fun park.
Mountain huts and après-ski
Ready for a break? Several cosy mountain huts are scattered throughout the ski resort. The menu offers a variety of typical Spanish dishes, as well as sandwiches (bocadillos), burgers, and other international specialties. After a day on the slopes, feel like socializing? The après-ski scene in Sierra Nevada has its own charm, different from the Alps, but definitely enjoyable. There are several charming restaurants and bars where you can unwind and have a drink. And don't forget to indulge in some tapas, soak up the sun, and enjoy the atmosphere!
