Winter sports in Spain take place in the Sierra Nevada, in the south of the country, and in the Pyrenees in the north. The winter sports atmosphere in Spain is different from what you are used to in the Alps. No schnitzels, but tapas and no mulled wine, but sangria. In total, there are just over 30 ski resorts in Spain. Despite the southern location, you don't have to worry about snow conditions in many ski resorts, partly due to the presence of snow cannons.
You have to be prepared to go on winter sports in Spain. The Spanish Pyrenees are over 1,300 kilometres away, but travelling by plane is of course also a possibility. Skiing in Spain is an incredibly fun experience. Don't expect state-of-the-art ski resorts, but do expect beautiful slopes amidst beautiful scenery. There is no mass tourism (in the smaller ski resorts) and the price level is a bit lower than in the Alps. Spain's best-known ski resorts are Formigal, Cerler, Baqueira Beret and La Molina.
