Vipiteno was an important stopping place on one of the main connection routes between Italy and Austria. The long trade caravans that went to the silver and lead mines in the vicinity of the city brought wealth to the Isarco valley. That is still evident in the beautifully painted merchant houses in the old town. In summer tourists come here in droves to visit this beautiful town. In the old town you will find beautiful, charming little medieval streets. The Zwölferturm which dates back to 1468 with its step-shaped spire and the Rathaus are Vipiteno's most notable attractions.
