Veneto is a north-eastern region of Italy, also home to the eastern part of the Dolomites. This area doesn't have an abundance of ski resorts, but there are some gems. Cortina d'Ampezzo and Passo san Pellegrino are definitely names that ring a bell. Veneto lies below Austrian Carinthia and is an excellent spot for winter sports. Sun is no rarity here, so it's always a pleasure to stay just a little longer on a terrace of a mountain hut.
Recommended ski resorts in the area are Arabba-Marmolada, Civetta and Cortina. The pistes don't stretch over hundreds of kilometres, but they are well-groomed, and the views are breathtaking. If you are willing to spend a few hours in the car, you can crown your winter holidays with a trip to Venice. The distinctive feature of the ski villages in the region is their high altitude. Due to the shape of the valleys, many villages are above 1,000 metres, so the area is extremely snow-sure.
