Ortisei, St Ullrich in German, lies at an altitude of 1,236 metres and is the first village you encounter when driving into Val Gardena. It is the most famous, liviest and popular destination in the valley and this is partly due to its atmospheric and authentic appearance. Old farmhouses and traditional houses adorn the village. The heart of Ortisei is the cosy village centre where you will find all kinds of nice shops, boutiques, restaurants and bars. You'll even find one of the Dolomites' most beautiful shopping streets here!
Part of the centre of Ortisei is car-free and only accessible to pedestrians. It is definitely worth taking a stroll through the village after a day on the slopes of Val Gardena or the Seiser Alm. There are several sights to be admired, as well as great shopping and immersing yourself in local culture and traditions. Sports enthusiasts will find facilities including a swimming pool, a gym and a tennis hall. While staying in Ortisei, you can constantly enjoy the views of the mighty Dolomites. Not without reason have these majestic mountains been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2009. It is especially beautiful in the morning, when the peaks briefly turn orange during sunrise. Among others, the Seceda, Monte Pic and Resciesa can be admired from the village.
