At first glance the ski resort of Meran/Merano brings to mind a Mediterranean seaside resort rather than a ski resort! However, in less than 15 minutes, a two-stage cable car takes winter sports fans up to the resort's own ski area which starts at 1900m and has its highest point at over 2300m of altitude. Here you can find over 40km of gentle, easy runs, particularly well-suited to beginners and easy-going intermediate skiers. Slopes are equipped with snow canons meaning you can ski right up to the Easter period here.
The Meran 2000 ski area is also part of the Ortler ski area, which includes ten neighbouring ski areas offering a wide choice of varied slopes for all levels. This is where advanced and expert skiers will need to venture to find challenging slopes to keep them on their toes as there are only 3km of black runs in the Meran 2000 ski area itself. There are no specific facilities for snowboarders in this area so snowboarders will need to venture further afield with the expert skiers..
