Ski areas Saxony

Saxony, located in the east of Germany, is home to the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge). This mountain range stretches along the Czech border and spans 150 kilometres. The highest peak in both the Ore Mountains and Saxony is the Fichtelberg (1,241 m), whose slopes are home to the pistes of Oberwiesenthal – the most popular and extensive ski resort in the region.

Don’t expect vast ski areas with endless kilometres of runs in Saxony. The resorts here are compact, each offering just a handful of pistes. They’re ideal for families and beginners, but less suited to demanding or advanced skiers. In total, the Ore Mountains offer around 70 ski slopes and 60 ski lifts. You’ll also find numerous toboggan runs, winter hiking trails, and an impressive 1,500 kilometres of cross-country skiing tracks. If you’re looking for an alternative to the Alps, Saxony has everything you need for a varied and enjoyable winter sports holiday.
