The French ski resort Super Besse is located near the city of Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise, adjacent to the village of Super Besse. The small ski area is spread out across the southern slope of the Sancy (1886m), a dormant volcano. Indeed, one of the most spectacular pistes in the Super Besse ski area runs along the flank of the volcano towards the crater. 120km of cross-country skiing trails wind their way between sparkling mountain lakes. Thanks to its south-facing orientation, the ski area enjoys many hours of sunshine, something to be especially grateful for given the cold winters and harsh winds that have been known to descend on the region. The Super Besse ski area may not have enough for a full week of skiing, but it’s perfect for a weekend getaway. Towards the northern side, the ski area is also connected to the town of Mont-Dore.
In total, the Super Besse ski area has 43km of slopes, or 27 different pistes. Of these, there are 5 green slopes for beginners, 9 blue slopes, 9 red slopes and 4 black slopes for expert skiers – something for every level! The large Perdrix gondola in the middle of the ski area runs from the valley up to an altitude of 1850m above sea level, from where you’ll have access to almost all the slopes in the ski area. The Super Besse ski area opens for night skiing on floodlit slopes and offers plenty of activities off the slopes including tobogganing, snowshoeing and even a biathlon course.
