Winter sports in the French Pyrenees, or the Pyrenees, is a great experience. The mountains here are different, with a completely different winter sports atmosphere. Waiting times at the lifts are almost non-existent, and the prices are lower than in the Alps. In the region, you can find cosy, authentic villages as well as modern ski resorts with high-rise buildings and modern facilities. The highlight of the Pyrenees is the mighty Pic du Midi de Bigorre (2,877 m), which boasts an observatory. It is located within the Grand Tourmalet - Barèges La Mongie, the largest ski resort in the Pyrenees.
You have to be quite keen to go on winter sports in the French Pyrenees. London, for example, is about 1300 km away. Popular destinations for winter sports in the Pyrenees are Saint Lary Soulan, Ax 3 Domaines and Peyragudes. All of them are pleasant ski resorts with good skiing possibilities and a cosy atmosphere. In the Pyrenees, you don't need to worry about snow conditions. The pistes are high, and there is a lot of snow every winter. Due to its southern location, there is usually also plenty of sunshine.
