Between the mighty mountains of Haute-Savoie, with views of Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva, lies the small ski resort of Praz de Lys - Sommand. This beautiful ski is situated at an altitude of 1400 with its ski slopes reaching an altitude of 2000 meters. Praz de Lys - Sommand actually consists of two small picturesque villages : Taninges and Mieussy.
These two typical French villages are interconnected by the Praz de Lys - Sommand ski area and by the Col de la Ramaz mountain pass. Each village has its own charm and attractions. In Mieussy you will find many historical sites such as the church of Saint - Gervais (built in the 15th century), Barbey castle and two beautiful stately homes. According to the Tourist Office of Mieussy this was where the first ever paragliding school was founded back in 1978 by three paratroopers. There are many outdoor activities to do in Pra de Lys - Sommand such as dog sledding and paragliding of course! From Mieussy there are many beautiful trails where you can enjoy snowshoeing. Taninges is the most colorful village in the resort Paz de Lys - Sommand and this is where you will find most of the restaurants, hotels and bars. Taninges has a wonderful venue, formerly an abbey, where concerts and exhibitions are held, a church tower with the first chime of the Haute - Savoie and a beautiful fountain in the centre. Praz de Lys - Sommand is a quiet ski resort with very little apres-ski making it a wonderful place to spend a relaxing and interesting ski holiday.
