Pra-loup, meaning "Wolf’s Prarie", was built in the 1960s and is located not far from Barcelonette in the Southern Alps. It is one of the French Alps' well-kept secrets and is relatively unknown to British skiers. The ski area of Pra-Loup together with that of the ski resort of La Foux d'Allos form the so-called Espace Lumière ski area, totalling approximately 160km of varied runs for all levels.
Pra Loup's slopes are divided into two levels: the lower part, "La Molanes" (at 1500m), offers excellent slopes for family skiing, while the upper part (at 1600m) is more appropriate for experienced skiers and those looking for a challenge. Wide sloping runs are what distinguish Pra-Loup. There is an airport within two hours drive, so short ski holidays here are perfectly feasible. The Espace Lumière offers some good snowboarding with a total of four snow and terrain parks on offer.
