Mont-Saxonnex lies in the foothills of the Bargy mountain range with the heart of the village located at 1,000 meters above sea level. The name of the village means "mountain of black rocks " and takes its name from a medieval legend, about a fire that lasted seven years!
Mont-Saxonnex was once just an abbey and slowly grew into a village. The abbey no longer exists but Mont-Saxonnex does have some beautiful sights worth visiting. The village has a church, beautifully situated high above the village on a hill. Also, the village has a beautiful chapel. In the vicinity of Mont -Saxonnex you will find a lake, where many legends were born. Also, the village has its own ski area, and is an ideal setting for hiking or snowshoeing. The nightlife in the village is quite lively and there is even a disco. In the surrounding villages you will find cinemas and a casino.
