The ski resort of Abondance is located in the beautiful French departement of Haute-Savoie, 4 km from the ski resort of Châtel and 30 km from Lake Geneva. The village is located to the south of Lake Geneva, on the River Dranse, and offers lots of opportunities for fun and active ski holidays. A small ski area for beginners and the vast and more challenging Les Portes du Soleil ski area are both easy to reach from the resort. Pleasant apres-ski, good cross-country skiing and hiking, visits to local museums or the chance to taste the delicious Abondance cheese... There's certainly plenty to see and do besides skiing in Abondance.
The ski area of Abondance is called l'Essert and is just perfect for beginners and families. There are plenty of skiing and snowboarding lesson options, for all ages. Prices in Abondance have been literally frozen for years, making it a relatively cheap ski holiday destination. The resort has a lot to offer in the way of delicious food with its irresistable local specialities - you must be a cheese fan though! Abondance cheese, for example, is very popular for making the local cheese fondue and is an absolute must after a challenging day on the pistes. The ski area of Les Portes du Soleil is half an hour's drive away from Abondance and offers 650 kilometres of varied, sunny slopes for those looking for more choice and more of a challenge on their ski holidays!
