While French ski resorts are not particularly well-known for their charming image, Samoens is definitely an exception to the rule. Samoens is a traditional, old Savoy farming village which has become a truly lovely and authentic place to spend your ski holidays. In fact, it is the only ski resort in France that has earned the status of "Monument Historique" thanks to the many beautiful old buildings in the resort centre.
The ski area of Samoens can be reached via a gondola lift from the center of the ski resort. The ski slopes here are accessible to almost all levels, which means they are perfectly suitable for beginners and families with children. The ski area of Samoens, Le Grand Massif area, offers 260km of ski slopes, most of which are located around the ski resort of Flaine. Only 70 km east of Geneva, and close to railway stations, this ski resort is very easily accessible and has a short transfer time. There are plenty of shops, some good restaurants, bars and discotheques in Samoens giving the resort a lively feel. This is a wonderful spot in the French Alps to stroll around and soak up the traditional mountain atmosphere.
