The small, picturesque village of Sollières-Sardières located in the Parc National de la Vanoise lies at an altitude of 1232 meters above sea level near the glaciers of the Vanoise and the Grand Roc Black. Sollières-Sardières actually consists of four villages, namely the villages of Sollières, l' Endroit, Sardières and Chatel.
Sollières-Sardières has an interesting archaeological site called Balmes. This is a cave at 1300m and a necropolis of the settlement in 4000 BC, at the end of the Iron Age. The cave has been recreated in the Archaeological Museum in Sollières-Sardières. Another attraction is the Sardieres monolith. A huge rock which is especially popular with climbers. The village also has a beautiful church, a pair of chapels and many beautiful wooden houses. Sollières-Sardières is especially popular with cross-country skiers, since the entire area Le Domaine du Monolith focuses on cross-country skiing. There are 50 km of cross-country trails but no alpine ski runs.
