The small, sporty village of Entremont-le-Vieux is home to about 600 inhabitants, but it is a lively place, especially for outdoor enthusiasts and winter sports fanatics. The village is located near Chambéry at an altitude of 755 meters above sea level. Close to the village of Entremont-le-Vieux is the Desert d'Entremont ski area.
The village of Entremont-le-Vieux was formerly named Epernay and today it is sometimes still referred to by that name. The village itself is nothing special with just a few houses and a church. However, the surroundings are wonderful. Entremont-le-Vieux lies in a vast valley, just below the Massif du Granier. There is an interesting archaeological site here worth visiting. In 1988, in a cave near the village, an important site was found, namely the remains of a cave bear. There's now a museum devoted to it. Near the village is the La Desert d' Entremont ski area.
