160-person gondola to reach ski area
Vaujany is a small farming village located just opposite the ski area. Along with Auris En Oisans, Oz-en-Oisans and Alpe d'Huez, Vaujany is part of the Alpe d'Huez Grand Domaine ski area, with a total of 250km of slopes. The village of Vaujany has a handful of hotels, restaurants and bars. The bar of the Hotel Rissiou is particularly appreciated by the locals. There is also a skating rink and a cinema, so no-one gets bored in the evenings here.
Vaujany has pretty, tree-lined slopes that make a nice change from the rest of the Alpe d'Huez Grand Domaine ski area. The highlight of Vaujany is the gondola (one of the largest in the world) that can take 160 skiers and snowboarders quickly up to 2800m of altitude. Whoever wants to avoid the crowds in Alpe d'Huez should consider Vaujany (the gondola is almost never full) and in no time you will be at the top of the Pic Blanc. Unfortunately you can only ski back to the village by taking a beautiful, but black, run through the trees to the Vaujany Enversin lift.
