The picturesque village of Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol lies in the valley of Champsaur, at an altitude of 1220 meters above sea level. The highest peak in the vicinity of Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol is the Tourond (at 2745 meters). Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol is known for the Chaillol Festival (a music festival held in July and August) and for the Chaillol ski area which is mostly appreciated by families looking for peaceful ski holidays.
The village of Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol consists of several hamlets : Saint Michel, Chaillol Maroons, Fromentière, Moulin, La Villette, Chaillolet and Chaillol 1600. The last hamlet is where you can reach the Chaillol ski area. The village has several intesting sites across the hamlets. Saint Michel has the largest church and La Villette has a smaller church with a beautiful painted ceiling. Maroons is where most of the hiking and walks begin. The village is not very lively, but does have a few restaurants. If you're looking for lively apres-ski, Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for a peaceful ski holiday and beautiful natural surroundings, Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol is the right place for you.
