In the heart of the Hautes-Alpes in the Southern French Alps, at an altitude of 1350 meters above sea level, lies the small ski resort of Ancelle. This picturesque French village is located near Grenoble (only 100 km) and south of Champsaur. There are about 900 people living in Ancelle, which makes it a small, friendly place to spend your ski holidays.
Ancelle came about in the eighth century, and then in the sixteenth century fell into the hands of the Rambaud family, who built a castle which gave the village its charm and appearance that remains today. Unfortunately, the castle disappeared, but there are still small remnants to see. Many recent buildings in Ancelle have been built with the stones of the castle. Ancelle is primarily a farming village, but became a popular ski resort in the 50's for the inhabitants of Marseilles. The Ancelle ski area is small and is primarily suited to beginners and children, but off-piste skiers also find plenty to explore here. Ancelle is very quiet, but very cozy with lots of typical French taverns and bars.
