The Sunshine Village ski area is located in Banff National Park, the oldest national park in Canada and more recently named a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its astounding beauty. Breathtaking panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains are unbroken by any signs of civilisation beyond the limits of the resort. The ski area boasts skiing in two provinces, as some of the slopes are located in British Columbia! The village centre is car-free and you can get ski-in, ski-out accommodation at the Sunshine Mountain Lodge.
Just a fifteen-minute drive from the ski area is the town of Banff, originally developed as a spa town and a popular stop along the Canadian Pacific Railway in the late 1800’s. Today, it has become a lively town with bustling nightlife and a traditional Canadian atmosphere. Brush up on your railway history at the Banff Park Museum, attend a barn dance or a barbecue or go on a horse-drawn sledge ride through the magical Canadian winter wonderland. You’ll find plenty of hotels and budget accommodation in either Banff or nearby Lake Louise; for a true slice of history, stay at the Fairmont Banff Springs, one of the original railway hotels. The Calgary/Banff Airporter bus runs regular shuttles from Calgary Airport to Banff. The trip lasts about an hour and a half.
