Panorama Mountain Resort is one of few ski resorts in the Canadian Rockies to have a proper village in its own right. The charming, walkable village is located right at the base of the slopes and has an assortment of shops, restaurants and even a spa to keep you busy while not on the slopes. Panorama Mountain Resort is perhaps most famous for its enormous outdoor hot pools, where you can indulge in the Canadian tradition of jumping in the hot tub and then straight into the snow!
If you haven't found everything you needed at the village, the slightly larger town of Invermere is just a 20-minute drive away. The ski area at Panorama lives up to its location in British Columbia’s Powder Highway. Thanks to the light, dry powder snow, it is a truly amazing experience to ski through the trees on the classic ungroomed pistes that are so characteristic of Canadian ski resorts. Beginner and intermediate skiers will also find their fair share of groomed pistes, of course. Panorama has one of the most comprehensive ski and snowboard lesson offerings of any ski resort, with options for kids, teens, different kinds of skiing, men’s-only and ladies’-only workshops. If you have the budget, you can even book a private heli-skiing lesson to get the most out of your Canadian ski holiday. Panorama Mountain Resort is a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Calgary International Airport, with airport shuttles during ski season.
Alternate activities
Apart from skiing, Kimberley also offers heli-skiing, snowmobiling, mountain yoga, snowtubing, outdoor ice skating, snowshoeing, 20km of cross-country trails, paragliding, archery, fat tire biking and day trips to nearby Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. The Panorama Springs Lodge has large outdoor hot tubs and swimming pools.
Restaurants and bars
There is a cluster of restaurants and bars in the base area of the ski resort, as well as the on-mountain Summit Hut at the top of the Summit Quad lift, which also offers a heli-fondue experience in the evening. The Jackpine Pub and the T-Bar & Grill are good bets for low-key après-ski.
Families
Lessons in a variety of formats for kids 3 and up, private lessons for families and freeriding camps for teens. Parents may be excited to hear that Panorama also offers an “Après Kids” program after the ski lesson is done, where kids will go ice skating, tubing, snowshoeing or back on the slopes with the instructor.
