Big White Village (Canada)

Big White Village in short

  • Height: 1508 - 2319 metres
  • Repeatedly voted top Canadian resort for families
  • Jam-packed event calendar
  • Lively après scene and loads of young people

Big White recently celebrated its 50th birthday and the recently modernized ski resort is still going strong. With an event calendar that includes carnival nights, farmer’s markets and ski racing, there is plenty to do both on and off the slopes. Big White has a reputation for being family-friendly, with a well-marked beginner’s ski area and regular children’s events.

The ski resort is popular with the young crowd and enjoys an animated après-ski scene and good nightlife, featuring live bands in some of the bars. Big White has a plethora of ski-in, ski-out accommodation, mostly in the form of holiday rentals, with affordable options available. Getting here requires taking a plane to Vancouver and then a bus or another flight to nearby Kelowna; look for shuttle options when you book your holiday.

Alternate activities

In addition to the extensive network of cross-country and snowshoeing trails, Big White has no shortage of alternate winter activities including tubing, outdoor ice skating, dogsledding, ice climbing, snowmobiling, and horse-drawn sledge rides through the magical snowy forests. If you’re in search of relaxation you can hit the spa, or get some retail therapy at the boutiques which sell clothing, ski and snowboard gear and other necessities

Restaurants and bars

The Okanagan is known for its fresh local produce, wine and craft beer. Several dozen restaurants and cafes serve a range of Canadian and international cuisine.

Families

Big White has an award-winning Kids’ Centre for budding skiers, as well as a stellar ski and snowboard school with a variety of offerings. Parents can take a well-deserved break thanks to the nightly supervised events for children, and for the youngest guests there is the Tot Town Daycare.
