If you’re one of those people who googles “best après-ski joints” before checking the number of slopes or the snow conditions at a ski resort, then this article is for you. Sometimes there’s nothing better than relaxing in the pub after a day of skiing, having a few pints with some good friends and singing a rousing rendition of classic après-ski hits. Tomorrow’s hangover can wait; it’s time to seize the afternoon! If you can handle drinking all night and skiing all the next day, then read on: Snowplaza has found you the best 10 après-ski villages in Austria.

1. Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen is one of the biggest party spots in Austria, and for good reason. This beloved ski resort has held firmly to its reputation as one of the ski areas at the forefront of the après-ski hits scene. After a day of sailing down the Ahorn or testing your skills on the Harakiri, grab a drink at the Ice Bar and end the night at the Brück ’n Stadl or the Arena nightclub.

2. Westendorf

Westendorf is a charming town set in Wilder Kaiser-Brixental, one of the biggest and most popular ski resorts in Austria. But it’s not just the skiing that rocks – check out the Moskito afterwards for some great après, or head on over to the Karat Bar and Gerry’s Inn.

3. Ischgl

Ischgl is not only a wonderful ski resort, but also a fantastic place for après-ski. Partyers are spoiled for choice, with the (nearly) car-free streets offering everything from classy wine bars to laid-back pubs. Start the evening off on the mountain with a drink at the Paznauner Taja and then go to the Kuhstall or the Trofana Alm until the wee hours. Ischgl’s Top of the Mountain Concert also features a few big names worth checking out.

4. Kitzbühel

A long-time après-ski favourite, Kitzbühel offers such gems as the Londoner and the Stamperl, not to mention the many on-piste options such as the Ganslern Alm, Vicky’s Alm and the Streifalm. In neighbouring Kirchberg you can check out the Eisbar and Der Tiroler.

5. St. Anton am Arlberg

St. Anton am Arlberg is renowned for its off-piste skiing, and those brave enough to venture into the backcountry will be amply rewarded when the night falls. Make your way back onto the slopes at the MooserWirt and then down to the traditional Tyrolean village to finish the night at the Krazy Kangaruh or the Piccadilly.

6. Gerlos

Gerlos attracts hordes of skiers every year for one main reason: the killer après-ski scene. The party gets going early in the day at Seppi, right on the pistes. Later on the crowds move down to the village and fill up the Cin Cin and the Little London. Gerlos is guaranteed to be a good time.

7. Sölden

After completing the gruelling BIG 3 at Sölden you deserve to chill out and have a few drinks. Well, you’re in the right place – both the pistes and the village offer tons of options for a spot of après-ski. At Sölden you’ll find the ideal combination of cozy pubs and hopping nightclubs. Start at the Almrausch or the Schirmbar and stumble on to the popular Fire & Ice after a few drinks.

8. Flachau

Flachau definitely deserves a spot on the list of best Austrian après-ski destinations for its generous selection of après-ski spots both on and off the pistes. Near the bottom of the Hermann Maier FIS World Cup downhill run lies the most famous and popular. The Hofstadl started off as a small mountain hut but it has evolved into an après-ski legend. Each table gets its own beer or wine on tap, to be drunk in time with the après-ski hits blaring from the speakers. And that’s just the beginning – discover your own new favourite in this partytown!

9. Zell am See

Zell am See proposes a large variety of bars and nightclubs. Après-ski starts early on the pistes at the Schnaps Hans Alm Bar. Later on, join a pub crawl through the village or have a quiet pint with a few good friends. Or scout out some live music and dance your socks off – anything is possible in Zell am See! Good spots to check out in the village are the Villa Crazy Daisy and the Pinzgauer Diele.

Saalbach-Hinterglemm

10. Saalbach and Hinterglemm

Last but not least are Saalbach and Hinterglemm, which have been an Austrian hotspot for years. As if the skiing on offer wasn’t enough, these two nearby towns boast an incredible array of après-ski pubs and nightclubs which draw crowds well into the night. Popular in Hinterglemm are the Goaßtal, the Après Ski Palace and the Hexenhäusl. In Saalbach, people flock to the Bauer's Schi-Alm and Hinterhag Alm.
