This weekend marks the official season opening of Saalbach ski resort. The number one ski resort in Austria, Saalbach’s stellar selection of pistes for all abilities plus some of the most superb freeriding terrain in the Alps draws more skiers every year than almost any other resort in Europe. This year the pre-season is off to a promising start, with the mountain having already opened for the last few weekends. Don’t miss the BERGFESTival rock concert on December 2-4, back for the fourth year running to kick off the official season opening.
The Glemm Valley echoes with some of Europe's best music
Headliners at this rock concert in the heart of the Austrian Alps include Australian metal band Skindred, rockers Zebrahead, up-and-coming Northcote and many more. German rap giant Alligatoah and Bavarian cult band La Brass Banda round off an impressive list of rock and underground artists.
BERGFESTival Venues
The already vibrant village of Saalbach transforms into a huge open-air stage stage for the weekend, where the Schattberg Stage serves up mulled wine with a side of Wolfmother. Surely the most spectacular of venues, the Wildenkarhütte is located right on the slopes, with stunning views of the Glemm Valley. For a cosier atmosphere, the Taverne offers a quaint and charming from which to rock out to Mittone and Evil Jared.
Rocking out at the BERGFESTival
I want to rock 'n roll all night - and ski every day!
The "skicircus" of Saalbach ski resort comprises over 270km of terrain, linking the villages of Hinterglemm, Leogang, Saalbach and, since 2015, the freeriding paradise of Fieberbrunn. This weekend, all the major lifts as well as two new 10-seater cable cars will be open, allowing access to all four villages.

Après-ski in Saalbach
If you’re looking to hit the pub for a few drinks before heading to the show, Saalbach offers some of the best après-ski around. Get started with a drink on the patio at the Barnalm next to the Bernkogel cable car or the Maisalm off blue piste 52, and then move onto the Glemmerkeller, where you’ll experience traditional Austrian nightlife. The Goassstall, set in a rustic 300-year-old barn, keeps the party going until 2am.
