Ski pass prices in the Alps are continuing to climb steeper, with an average increase of 4% in the most popular resorts this season. This means a 6-day ski pass in high season will cost you an average of £9.36 more than last season. It's becoming all too common to fork out more than £260 for a week of skiing. In this article we'll give a rundown of how ski pass prices have changed in the 2019-2020 ski season and provide data for some of the biggest resorts in the Alps.
Cost of a ski pass in 2019/2020
We compared the prices of ski passes across the Alps and found a 4% average increase compared to last year. In comparison, ski pass prices last year jumped only 2.76% vs. the previous season. The only ski resort on our list where you can potentially ski for cheaper than last year is Zermatt, which has introduced a dynamic pricing system and discounts. Of course, the fluctuating value of the pound sterling will have a further impact depending on when you book your holiday.
Almost £250 for a 6-day ski pass in Austria
The average price of a 6-day ski pass in Austria is £240 (€272,29), which represents an increase of just over 4%. Ski passes at Sölden and Ski Arlberg both run at over €300. Ski passes at Zell am See - Kaprun en Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang have also risen considerably (€278 for a 6-day ski pass). This is mainly due to the zellamseeXpress, which will connect both ski areas for a total of 408 kilometres of slopes. Prices in Ischgl have barely risen but a 6-day ski pass here will still cost you €262. Over in France, Paradiski is the only ski area on our list whose prices actually went down.

It could be worse
If you think the Alps are expensive, take a look at North America! A 6-day ski pass in the American ski resort of Aspen will cost you USD 924 (£733), while a 6-day ski pass in the Canadian resort of Whistler will run you CAD 909 (£544) thanks to the more favourable currency exchange rates. Still, it may be cheaper not to cross the pond this year.
