School is back in session and the summer is definitively over. Sad? On the contrary! It's finally time to start getting amped about the most important season of the year: winter! Our favourite time of year also heralds the start of ski season and although we can think of a hundred reasons why winter is the bee's knees, we've kept it to a humble ten. Here they are!
#1. Goodbye summer hits, hello après-ski!
We've put up with the summer hits for long enough, but it's finally time to crank the après-ski music again! You've already got ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’, ‘Anton aus Tirol’, 'Johnny Däpp’ and 'Die Immer Lacht’ blaring from the speakers and you're ready for (après-)ski season!
#2. Everyone around you has caught the skiing bug
Now that the summer holidays are over, the skiing mania is in full swing. You might have been able to hold out for a few more weeks, but the skiing bug is infectious. Since everyone around you is busy googling ski resorts and weather reports in the Alps, you can't help but be swept up along with the crowd! #3. Booking ski holidays with early-bird deals
Now that everyone around you is finally back from summer holidays, it's time to book your ski holiday! Holiday operators know that this is a good time of year to try enticing people to the mountains, so the websites are full of great early-season deals. In general, the sooner you book, the better the price! What are you waiting for? See cheap ski holiday destinations >
#4. Getting your stoke on
Whether it's a favourite skiing t-shirt, a skiing chat group coming out of hibernation or the flurry of skiing- and snowboard-related #throwback photos suddenly being shared on social media, the stoke is one of the best parts about the upcoming ski season! Once your ski holiday is booked and ready, you have full license to be checking the snow reports daily and comparing snow conditions in your chosen resort to those of your friends.
#5. No more sand, just snow, snow, snow!
Tired of coming home from the beach and finding sand in every nook and cranny of all your most personal clothing items? It's time to replace it with snow - and no one is complaining when you have snow in your boots or your hair. All part of the skiing fun, and an excuse to warm up with a hot chocolate!
#6. No more hot sweaty days
We'll take the cool, crisp mountain air over your 30-degree scorchers any day. Plus, who said there isn't sun on the slopes? Plenty of ski areas get upwards of 300 sunny days a year. Don't forget your goggles and your sunscreen!
#7. The mountains are just nicer in white
There's something unnatural and wrong about green Alps. The thicker the snow cover, the better, in our opinion! Nothing is more magical than snow-covered trees, fragile stalactites hanging off the eaves of the houses, and of course a nice thick patch of snow on our ski slopes! Waking up in the morning to fresh snow... priceless! See the webcams >
#8. Good excuse for a few days of indoor skiing
As the ski season approaches but is not quite here yet, many of us will be panicking about getting in shape for the upcoming ski season. How disappointing would it be to get to the slopes and find you're back to square one after all the hard work in your lessons last year? Getting in shape and hitting the indoor ski slopes for a few practice runs are two ways to make sure that your ski season starts off on the right foot.
#9. Finally, this year's ski gear is on sale!
You've been ogling the upcoming models for a while and here it is, the chance to finally kit yourself out with the latest models! Christmas is just around the corner, and who really needs an excuse for a new ski jacket? Another bonus: last year's clothes are on sale!
#10. Ski season is almost here
Well, this one pretty much sums it up, ladies and gentlemen! Just a few more short months and you'll be flying down the pistes again, enjoying a pick-me-up with a view of the Alps and partying your socks off in an après-ski hut. It's been a long summer but it'll all be worth it once you strap on those skis! Can't wait any longer? Check out the calendar of official ski season 2019/20 opening dates >
