Après-ski is an integral part of skiing and shouldn’t be overlooked when planning your holiday! Conveniently placed umbrella bars at the edge of the ski pistes remind us that we deserve a drink or two at the end of a strenuous day of skiing or snowboarding. Now, après-ski fiends will be happy to learn that they can keep the party going off the slopes as well with the Alps’ very first après-ski train! Last ski season, billionnaire investor Samih Sawiris completely redesigned an alpine train, turning it into the longest après-ski trip in Switzerland. The journey takes a little over an hour, but with beer, wine, champagne and small bites, the time flies! Until April 2, the train runs twice a day between Andermatt and Disentis; and on Saturdays a DJ kicks the party vibe up a notch. Entry is free when you show a valid ski pass. Just show up, hop on board and let the Victor the friendly bartender show you how après-ski is really done!
The Glacier Express coach has panoramic views of the mountains and surrounding countryside. It’s equipped with two bars, a lounge and bar stools which you can comfortably sit on despite the train’s sloping trajectory, in brash defiance of the laws of gravity. The carriage is immediately visible from the outside – a large design made by two graffiti artists adds a splash of colour to the train.

Andermatt’s après-ski train is not the only après-ski novelty in the Alps. Kitzbühel opened the very first all-inclusive après-ski bar this season, where skiers and snowboarders can pay a one-time fee and drink as much as they want throughout the night.
