Skiers and snowboarders in France and Austria are breathing a cautious sigh of relief after the heavy snow that has been plaguing many ski resorts finally ceased in favour of blue skies this morning. We never thought we’d say it but there has been almost too much snow recently! Thankfully, this morning saw eager holidaygoers venture out onto the slopes and get to enjoy the fresh powder that’s been dumping all week. Over in Switzerland, the snow continues to fall in some ski resorts, with Davos-Klosters receiving a couple feet of powder. Time to leave the hot cocoa behind and hit the slopes!
Heavy snowfall finally gives way to sunny blue skies
Roads are gradually opening up in Austria and France. The situation in Zermatt is still cautious, with heli-shuttles replacing roads, but the ski area is partially open and there appears to be no danger to the people in the village. Despite the absolutely perfect bluebird skiing conditions, skiers and snowboarders should be aware that the avalanche risk is still high in many ski resorts. Ski safe!
