Fresh snow at © Lech Zürs am Arlberg
Mother Nature has brought more fresh snow to the mountains! Another cold front reached the northern side of the Alps on Sunday night and brought a dump of fresh snow with it, focused mainly in Austria’s ski resorts. The snow line is lower than 500m altitude meaning there’s snow in the valleys too, with many roads, trees and roofs inundated in powder. A good portion of the ski resorts are open already and several more are expected to open soon. Below you’ll find some lovely snowy pictures to get your blood pumping, as well as a report on the snowfall in some of the main alpine ski resorts.
Heavy snowfall concentrated in Austria
Most of the snow has fallen in Austria and southern Germany, in places like St. Anton and Obertauern. France and Italy have had a dry and sunny week, which means that despite the almost-glorious conditions, Chamonix will have to push back its opening date. However, the ski season is shaping up to be a stellar one all across the Alps. An Arctic chill is also expected to bring some snow to Scotland's mountains early this week, good news for skiers and snowboarders in the UK.

Skies are clearing in the Alps after recent snowfall
After this weekend’s snowfall, ski resorts in the Alps were welcomed with sunny skies and slightly warmer temperatures this morning. While there continue to be light flurries in some higher altitude places, most of the alpine area can expect to see calm, sunny weather at the beginning of this week for a perfect start to the 2017-2018 ski season!
