France: Right on par

France's lift ticket prices have increased in keeping with the average of about +2% that we found across the Alps. A bargain is Paradiski, whose 6-day lift ticket has only increased in price by €1. Les Trois Vallées, the Tignes-Val d'Isère and Les Portes du Soleil have all increased by about 2%. Les Portes du Soleil is still the cheapest option, with a 6-day lift ticket coming in at €260 even.

Ski pass prices in Austria on the rise

The lift tickets that see the greatest jump in price are mostly in Austria, where the average price for a 6-day ski pass in one of the top ski resorts this season is €252.20, up 4% from last season. This year marks the first year of the combined lift pass with Sölden-Hochsölden-Vent and Gurgl, meaning an unfortunate rate hike of 6.3%. The new lift ticket costs €285, €16 more than last year. Other expensive ski areas in Austria are Ski Arlberg, up 5% to 275 this year, and Kitzbühel & Kirchberg, up 3.9% to €266. If you’re looking for an affordable but decent ski area in Austria, Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau has over 100km of pistes and a 6-day lift ticket will only set you back €228.50 (an increase of 3.2% over last year).

Swiss franc exchange rate woes

Ski pass prices in Switzerland appear to have decreased, and many resorts in this country have indeed opted not to raise their prices. But the real reason lift tickets appear to have had their prices slashed this year is because of the exchange rate. Even accounting for the pound sterling’s nail-biting performance over the last year, British skiers and snowboarders should be able to get good bang for their buck when buying Swiss lift tickets.

Skiing and snowboarding holidays: Still worth every penny

Just count your lucky stars you don’t live in America: at Aspen, a 6-day lift pass costs $894 (appr. €759)! Too dear? On the other side of the pendulum you have a plethora of small German ski resorts, where 6-day lift tickets run well under €200. And, of course, we have some fantastic ski hills right here in the UK. About Danielle

Born and raised in the ski paradise of Vancouver, Canada, I learned to ski before I can remember, balancing precariously on my parents’ skis as they sailed down the hill. I started snowboarding in my teens and am now delighted to be exploring everything Europe’s ski scene has to offer!
