Going is located at an altitude of 773 metres, at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser mountains. The village has a central but quiet location, some 20 km from the border at Kufstein. To get there, you don't need an Austrian toll sticker. Going has a picturesque, peaceful feel and a family-friendly character. Partly for this reason, tourists love coming here, but also because of the extensive skiing, cross-country skiing and hiking possibilities. Yet there are no big crowds, and the tranquillity remains even in the heart of winter.
For many centuries, people have known how to find their way to Going. The traditional alpine village has a picturesque and peaceful feel, with the Wilder Kaiser in the background everywhere you look. Some people even claim that you have the most beautiful views of the mountain range from here. Many climbers, therefore, descend there to climb it. A large Baroque church and various houses, shops and accommodations surround the village square. Going is especially appreciated by winter sports enthusiasts for its quiet and small-scale slopes.
Going is located at the edge of the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental ski area. The 4-seater chairlift Astberg is situated at the edge of the village and offers easy access to the ski area. You can find several practice lifts and slopes near the valley station of this lift. SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental boasts over 270 km of pistes, offering something for everyone. You can explore the runs on the Astberg or head further towards the other 'Kaiser villages' in the area, like Ellmau, Scheffau and Söll. Or towards Itter, Brixen im Thale, Hopfgarten and Westendorf. Fun tours to ski are the SkiWelt Tour and Kaiserrunde. At the end of the ski day, a wonderful valley run back to the village always awaits you.
Going is the starting point of the KitzSkiWelt Tour, which, at 88 km long, is one of the most extended ski tours in the world. The ski tour ends in Mittersil, on the edge of the Hohe Tauern, and takes up a whole ski day. Not only do you ski on the slopes of SkiWelt, but also on those of KitzSki.
Going is a popular winter sports destination for families in particular. This is partly due to its quiet and small-scale character. The small ski area above the village is located in the far east of SkiWelt and is much quieter. For ski lessons, children can attend ski school Going with the Pingu Kids Club (4 to 15 years). The slopes directly above Going am Wilder Kaiser are very suitable for beginners and families with (young) children. It never gets tricky or steep here. And besides, there are several practice slopes in the valley to learn to ski on.
Going is a village that invites you to unwind. The village's traditional character is reflected in the activities that are on offer here. Ice stock sport, for example, which is similar to curling. Ice-skating on the frozen lake or taking a lovely winter walk at Schwendterdörfl. During your winter sports, you should also definitely go tobogganing. The toboggan run on the Astberg is 4.5 km long and is also open in the evening on certain days.
From Going, you have access to a vast network of cross-country ski trails surrounding the Wilder Kaiser. Each trail releases a new, stunning view of the mountain range. For those who like to go out with a guide, snowshoe hikes to the area's most beautiful and peaceful spots are on offer.
