Hochgurgl (2150 m) ligt enkele honderden meters hoger dan het uitgebreidere Obergurgl. Hochgurgl bestaat uitsluitend uit (exclusieve) hotels en heeft qua voorzieningen verder niet veel te bieden. Hier kom je om lange dagen op de piste te maken. Vanuit je accommodatie sta je direct op de pistes van Gurgl en over de sneeuw hoef je je geen enkele zorgen te maken. Aan dit voorrecht hangt wel een prijskaartje. Het prijsniveau in Hochgurgl ligt hoger dan gemiddeld. Hochgurgl is gewoon met de auto bereikbaar, maar ook met de skibus of de Hochgurglbahn vanuit Pill. Van doorgaand verkeer is in de winter geen sprake, aangezien de Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstraße richting Italië wegens de vele sneeuw gesloten is.

De pistes in Hochgurgl zijn het hele seizoen rustig, wachttijden komen hier vrijwel niet voor. Het sneeuwzekere skigebied van Gurgl beschikt over meer dan 100 km piste en is geopend van eind november tot begin mei. Het hoogste punt ligt op 3082 meter, bij het Top Mountain Star Restaurant. Vanaf hier ski je over brede, niet al te lastige afdalingen terug naar het hoteldorp. Wie toe is aan meer uitdaging waagt zich aan de pistes van de Vorder Wurmkogel en Große Karbahn. Daarnaast beschikt Hochgurgl over een (verlichte) rodelbaan (3 km) richting het Gurgler Tal en een hoogteloipe (0,8 km). Dankzij de Top-Express gondel zijn de pistes van Obergurgl snel bereikbaar. Een meerdaagse skipas biedt ook toegang tot de overige skigebieden van het Ötztal, waaronder die van Sölden-Hochsölden-Vent.

Ski resort Gurgl: skiing right to your front door

The big advantage of a winter sports holiday in Hochgurgl is that you can get on your skis straight from your accommodation. Thanks to its snow-sure location at an altitude of 2150 metres, you can ski in Gurgl from autumn until deep into spring. After taking just two lifts, the Hochgurglbahn II and the Wurmkogl II, you are already at the highest point of the area, the Wurmkogel (3082 m). Here you will find the Top Mountain Star restaurant, from where you can enjoy stunning views. Over beautiful, wide runs you can ski back towards the hotel village. The outside of the ski area is accessed by the Kirchenkarbahn I+II and is often wonderfully quiet. Crossing over to Obergurgl allows you to take advantage of the full slope range of over 100 kilometres.

After skiing in Hochgurgl

As mentioned, life in Hochgurgl mainly takes place in the accommodations. However, these luxury hotels therefore often have facilities such as wellness, swimming pools and bars. For cosy après-ski, there is the Schermer Schirm and Toni's Almhütte, which is housed in a 400-year-old mountain hut. The 3-kilometre toboggan run from Hochgurgl to the valley (Pill) is also open. Another unique activity in Hochgurgl is golfing. Hotel Riml houses Europe's largest indoor golf hall (700 m²). The modern golf simulator allows you to play on 54 golf courses, there is a putting green and a possibility of coaching with video analysis.
