Murau
In the middle of the valley between the Stolzalpe (1870 m) and the Frauenalpe (2004 m) mountains is the town of Murau. Murau boasts the cleanest air in Austria. This family-friendly resort is the ideal base for the many other ski resorts in the area. With just one ski pass, "the Murtaler", you can enjoy the Turracher Höhe, Kreischberg, Grebenzen, Lachtal, Hohentauern and Präbichl ski areas with a total of 55 cable cars and ski lifts and over 150 km of slopes on offer! An extensive network of mountain bike tracks plus a huge amount of events, make Murau a winter sports paradise. For a lovely overview of the valley, a trip on the old local train is a must. The city is characterized by the remnants of the Middle Ages, such as parts of the old city wall. Anyone interested in wood, is in the right place in Murau because with its wood museum and a wood festival which is held here, it's not surprising that Murau is known as the Wood Region.
