Ski resort Kaunertaler Glacier

In contrast to most glacier ski areas in the Alps, you can drive straight to the Kaunertal glacier from the motorway - an adventure in itself! From Feichten, the last village in the valley, it's about a half-hour drive to the top through a beautiful winter wonderland. After you've conquered the first few hairpin turns you'll find yourself at an altitude of 2150m, where you can step straight into your skis and take the Ochsenalm lift into the ski area. Alternately, you can keep going until an altitude of 2750m, where you'll be in the middle of the Kaunertal glacier ski area.

The Kaunertal glacier has a well-organised ski area with pistes of varied difficulty. From the Karlesspitze skiers can enjoy panoramic views over 3 countries (Austria, Italy and Switzerland). An alternate ski route leads back to the middle station of the Ochsenalm chairlift. The Kaunertal glacier is one of Austria's best-kept secrets for freeriders, who will find a myriad of off-piste possibilities here. Meanwhile, beginners will enjoy the selection of wide blue pistes, and freestylers can practise their jumps at the Weisseeferner snow park. Unlike other alpine glaciers, the Kaunertal Glacier is still unspoilt and free of crowds, which makes up for the relatively small number of slopes.
