On the outskirts of Obertraun, the Dachstein Krippensteinbahn cable car provides access to the Dachstein Krippenstein ski area. This very snow-sure ski destination boasts some 12 km of groomed slopes and an extensive off-piste area with more than 30 km of ski routes. It also features an 11 km long valley run which is the longest run in Austria. Dachstein Krippenstein is a freerider's paradise that also offers plenty of opportunities for anyone who prefers to ski on groomed slopes.
Dachstein Krippenstein: skiing with a view of Lake Hallstatt
The slopes of Dachstein Krippenstein are located on the flanks of the Hoher Krippenstein, which is part of the Dachstein massif. They are exclusively marked blue and red; there are no black runs. Rugged rock formations characterise the landscape, and while descending, you can regularly enjoy the view of Lake Hallstatt. The slopes almost never get busy as most winter sports enthusiasts come here for freeriding. The highlight of the ski resort is the 11 km long downhill run that starts at an altitude of 2,109 metres and ends at 609 metres.
