Family-owned and operated Mt Seymour is the freestyling hotspot of Vancouver thanks to its excellent terrain parks, all of which are also open at night. The area also has an extensive network of snowshoeing trails with scenic lakes and old-growth forests. In terms of downhill skiing and snowboarding, Mt Seymour is somewhat smaller than the other two Vancouver ski resorts and the terrain is not as challenging. It’s a perfect ski resort for intermediate skiers and snowboarders, as there are loads of blue pistes that are perfect for practising technique. Advanced skiers and snowboarders will also find some gladed runs. Mt Seymour doesn't have snowmaking equipment so the season start date varies considerably between November and April.
Apart from skiing, Mt Seymour is best-known for its snowshoeing trails, with a variety of terrain for every level. The ski resort also offers snow tubing and tobogganing. In terms of dining options, most people grab lunch in the cafeteria at the base station; there’s also the Rock Chute Bar & Grill, where you can get your après-ski started. Families will find a magic carpet and a good assortment of green pistes at Mt Seymour for beginners. Kids aged 3 and up can take ski lessons, and there are special freestyle lessons available from the age of 9. The snow can be unpredictable at Mt Seymour so check conditions before you go and be prepared for a nasty drive. If you want to avoid driving, Mt Seymour operates a shuttle bus from the Rupert Skytrain Station in East Vancouver and the Parkgate Community Centre at the base of the mountain.
